WordPress Roundup and some cool new plugins.

So wordpress is nearly at version 3 which should be released in the next month or so.

I have found some really cool plugins lately which ill list below:

  • Facebook “like” plugin – This plugin puts a like button at top and bottom of posts and interacts direct with facebook.
  • Google Buzz Comment Importing Plugin – This plugin is very cool. Recently i have had google buzz import my blog posts and ive had a few comments on it, but it doesnt show on my blog. This plugin fills the gap and imports all google buzz comments onto the blog. See it in action on this post here.
  • Lifestream – Shows all your social website accounts on the right just like my blog does on the homepage.

Speed Limits On …

Cars!

Following on from my previous policing rant, i wanted to make another observation.

Here’s a thought, what if the speed of cars was limited to 110km/h. Well for starters we wouldn’t need highway patrol anymore, secondly, we wouldn’t have crazy P Platers going 150, overtaking every little turtle to and fro. 110km-h

Why would you need to travel more than 110km/h? Sure, emergency vehicles could be an exception to the rule, but everyone else, there’s no need to travel more than 110km/h if its AGAINST THE LAW.

Now how could this be implemented? Well they did it in some European countries, and they somewhat do it in cars here. That is, new cars have a computer that stops the engine from hitting the red in your taco metre. This could be implemented the same way for speed, on all new cars brought in, if the Government brought in a new policy.

There is a few problems associated with this though. If your a mechanic, you could probably just bypass it or pay someone to do it, opening up a new black market for “fast car mods.”

Thoughts? Come on, you disagree don’t you… but why?

Early Mornings. eg. 4am

So im currently sitting on the train, now 5.09am despite the title. But i woke up this morning at 3.50am. Why? I have no idea, im a crazzyyyyy person.

oi nup!

I’m not really. Im taking my girlfriend on a hot date. At the moment she has no idea where we are going, and shes reading over my shoulder, so later in the day ill change the destinations below. *Edit: Now updated*

First time i think I’ve ever waken up this early, and its actually not to bad! Sure i need a few coffees, but I’m wide awake and blogging! ha. For a 4.48am gosford train, its quite full, there is also alot of crazy people like myself that must be going on hot dates as well ;) – Except the two guys in front, bald and in council uniform don’t look like their hitting the –insert place here- anytime soon.

Also I’ve just noticed this guy snoring like he’s pretending to be 80 years old, but he’s actually only about 28.

So back to my 4am story. Its our 3 month anniversary, well,  now its actually 3 months 4 days* :) So i thought i’d skip uni and do something fun on my days off work for once and travel to Sydney. Yeaaaa i know, of all places, what was i thinking, the coast is way better ;)

First destination:

  • Pancakes On The Rocks
  • pancakes on the rocks IMG_0029 IMG_0030
  • So this place took ages to find, we were literally walking around for 20 minutes trying to find it as i thought it was on the water side, but its actually a street back, I’ve made a mark on google maps exactly so its a bit more clear if you take a visit for yourself :)
Taking ages to find it wasnt a downside at the time, 6.45am and the sunrise was amazing over the Opera house and the Harbour Bridge.
This place was very quiet, only one couple when we got in, and a group of girls by the time we left and the place seated about 100-200 people.
Pancakes were awesome as you can see in the picture and i was very full after eating a serving which all cost around $10-14

Second destination:

  • Walking around the Harbour and taking photos :D
  • We also took a ferry cos we cool like that bro
  • IMG_0020 IMG_0024 IMG_0257 IMG_0390

Third destination:

  • -USYD (University of Sydney for the uneducated)
  • IMG_0408
  • While Brie went to her Tute, Andy & I did some walkup and had some really good conversations. After all our adventures we were dead tired and actually feel asleep on the train.

HOME. woooo.

Twix Caramel Chocolate Bar Brownies

This was our desert we made one night after we had a paste sausage dish that can be found here.

Ingredients

  • 250g unsalted butter
  • 250g cooking chocolate chips
  • 150g cooking chocolate (we used 50g dairy milk chocolate cos it was cheaper)
  • 4 medium eggs
  • 2 Tbsp pure vanilla extract (NOT Vanilla Essence)
  • 500g sugar
  • 300g self raising flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3.5 Twix Bars (chopped and crunched)
  • 1.5 Twix Bars cut into quarters

1. Preheat oven to 220°C. Line slice oven tray with foil that hangs over the sides for ease in getting them out (butter/non-stick spray the foil).

2. In a heatproof, medium-bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water, heat butter, ALL CHOCOLATES (except twix bars) until melted and smooth; cool slightly. (may take a while)

3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla and sugar. Stir the egg mixture into the slightly cooled chocolate mixture. Cool to room temperature.

4. In a another bowl, sift together flour, and salt; add to batter. Stir chopped Twix bars into chocolate mixture. Then pour into prepared baking pan and smooth top with a rubber spatula. Place slices of the other Twix Bar onto the top of the brownie batter.

5. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean with a few crumbs attached; do not overbake! Let cool completely, then cover tightly and chill overnight. Chilled brownies are easier to cut.

Cooking Tips
*These taste better the second day.
**If it’s a warm day inside your house, you might consider chilling the Twix bars before you try to cut them.

Fancy Pasta Sausage Dish

The other night Brie came over and we cooked up a storm! This was the main meal and you can check out the caramel twix slice we made here.

This is the best meal I’ve had so far that takes no prep and only 15 mins to make! Better yet you can do it on the cheap if you use cheaper assuages or even use hot dogs instead! You may find the sausages a little easy to cut into the smaller pieces if you give them a cook for 2 minutes, then cut them. If you try this recipe and have any other tips let me know!

INGREDIENTS
  • Olive Oil or Butter
  • 6 sausages (we chose gourmet) (plan 1-2 per person)
  • 1 chopped white onion
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)
METHOD

1 Melt butter or oil in pan. Add the chopped onions and sliced sausage. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions and the sausages are nicely browned, 5-10 minutes.

2 Add the sour cream and water, stir until water and cream thickens up and looks like above. (Can take some time)

Serve with elbow macaroni, or favourite pasta. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley.

Serves 4 people. Or 3 very hungry people :)
