Convert Any Song In Itunes To A Ringtone For Your iPhone
- Find the song that you want to make into a ringtone.
- If you want to only use part of the song, Right-click the song and select “Get Info.” Now Click the “Options” tab, and then edit the start time of your ringtone in the text box next to “Start Time” and “End Time” (if desired). Then click ok.
- Right-click your song again and select “Convert Selection to AAC”. Wait for iTunes to convert your song. It will create a duplicate version.
- Right click the duplicate and select “Show in windows explorer.”
- Now leave that window open and go back to itunes, delete the duplicate, and select “keep files”
- Go back to the folder we just left open and change the extension of the song you just duplicated to .m4r instead of .m4a.
If you notice that the file does not appear to have an extension Go to the menu organize > Folder and Search Options, then click the View tab. Uncheck the box titled “Hide extensions for known file types”.
Simply just right click it and rename it and change the extension. - Now Double-click the ringtone file. ITunes will automatically add it to your ringtones folder in your iTunes Music Library.
- Connect your iPhone and sync your ringtones.

Or you can use free app GeoRing to instantly turn any any song in your iTunes library into ringtone with just a few taps. Unlike other ringtone-making apps, GeoRing doesn’t require iTunes syncing, which means your phone can ring with any song right away. Plus, create a Ringtone Playlist of your favorite songs and shuffle your ringtones to hear a new song every time. No free app makes ringing so much fun. You can find GeoRing in the App Store.

.. Brilliant ..
GeoRing does not convert your song to ringtones .. it requires GeoRing to be running in order to start a song when a call comes in ..
I definitely prefer this approach .. and thank you for sharing

This drove me crazy ALL day, until i FINALLY worked it out. All the steps above are great, but take advice from The Helper to change the extension. Just click on the name like you want to rename a file and change the extension.
Also, when i synched up, the ringtone did not appear in my ringtones tab, so i had to drag and drop it my my phone device. Bingo. All is good:)
