Facebook VS Myspace

I’ve been hearing about facebook and how much better it is than myspace for a while on the podcasts i listen to, today someone invited me to join so I did.
Not many people must know about it because I only had 3 people in my address book that had joined apart from the 150 people i have when i joined myspace. It isn’t even blocked on the school computers yet. I want to make this profile private so only friend can view it, only adding people i know as it can show all my personal information such as mobile numbers and address ect.. So the first thing i did was go into privacy and change everything to friends only. You can add me if you know me my clicking the above link next to myspace.Heres my review:

When you think of social networks you first think of MySpace however facebook recently has been gaining popularity and has enjoyed a flood of new users proberly because of the new launch of Facebook apps.

1. Site Designs:

Layouts: Facebook wins due to its simpleness, not allowing people to mess around with the look is a big plus, since most myspace user cant code html and make their profiles unreadable. Facebook allows users to customize by moving certain widgets around.

Profile Options: Facebook allows you to add and remove applications and has many more privacy and user input such as address, phone numbers etc.. Myspace lets you customise the page however you want with the use of html but this is a con in most cases as users wreck their profiles and are unreadable.

2. Pictures, Videos, Music:

Pictures: Facebooks well organised picture section wins. With the applications recently released you can now add Fiickr and other photosharing site streams to your profile.

Video: Both sites have even features regarding videos. Both sites allow you upload video and they both have their own flash player.

MySpace wins, but only because all bands have a myspace account. But with the new facebook apps released, we might see a turn around and more bands start to appear. Bands can add tracks from sites like Last.fm and iLike. (Very popular music apps)

Sharing: Facebook is the only site that allows you to share media links very easily through a feed, which myspace doesn’t even suppoort.

3. Community/Usefulness

Facebook allos friends you add are usually your real friends. It’s not a contest like on MySpace where everyone is trying to have the most friends. On Facebook its about talking to the people you know and sharing things with them.

Groups: Another tie, both sites using having the same feature.

Contact Updates: Myspace doesn’t compare to Facebook in this area. The only way on myspace to know if a friend added something new to their profile is to go look at it, however on Facebook, two feeds are available, one tells you what’s new with you, like who accepted your friend request or your posted items and the other tells you whats new about your friends/what they have been up to recently.

Communication: Both have simple message systems.

Workmates: In facebook you can join company groups and see your mates, myspace doesn’t have this.

Finding Friends: Facebook easily lets you connect with friends you have not been in contact with for a while. The site is organised by schools and now by locations too. So unless you forgot your friends name you will probably be able to find them if they have an account. Myspace’s search facility is pretty much pointless and never brings up positive results, the only good thing is being able to search via email but this means you already have your friends email address.

Privacy: Facebook has the ability to hide info from certain stalkers you might have, just add their email address and never see them again. You can alos customise every part of the profile to be availble to different groups of people. Myspace just allows sort of like an on and off overall feature for privacy.

Problems: I have always experinced some bugs on myspace, still can’t chnage my email address due to the fact of my old one not existing anymore, it wants confirmation from the account that the email address has been changed but i cant check that email! I haven’t yet experienced any problems with Facebook

As you can see above Facebook owns Myspace in nearly every area, which is why I decided to join. Join today!
